12.3. Tables in DTDless XML documents

The table editor will activate only if it can find the definitions for the elements that can occur in a table. Since DTDless XML documents do not contain any element definitions unless these elements have been declared or have already occurred in the document, the table editor is not normally available for DTDless XML documents.

In order to use the table editor for DTDless XML documents, the element names for one of the supported table models need to be declared. epcEdit comes with an extension script that imports the definition for the elements in CALS tables into a DTDless XML document. After importing the CALS table model into your document, you can use the table editor to create and alter tables in your XML document.

The procedure for adding a CALS table to your DTDless XML document is described in The table editor.
